As a national literary journal featuring exciting new writing by young Australians, Voiceworks magazine, together with Express Media, sent a call-out for submissions for the John Marsden Prize. In 2012, the category I entered was Fiction by a person between 18 and 24 years of age. My short story, Poppies, won the overall prize and went on to be published in Voiceworks magazine, issue no. 91. I’m still overjoyed to have been selected as the winner. It’s very inspiring to be given the chance to share my creative writing with the readers of Voiceworks.
This highly-regarded journal, published by Express Media, is a beacon for young writers trying to break ground in a highly competitive industry. They have launched the careers of many young Australian writers, and the entire magazine is a celebration of the uniquely diverse voices of a national community of writers.
